AFL: Port Adelaide were hit with a rough injury toll but managed to secure a win over St Kilda, despite their kicking being off target in the first Quarter.
, Lyon fiercely defended his tactics and approach to the game during his post-match press conference , which featured Lyon asking just as many questions as he gave answers to the journalists in attendance.
The reporter then asked if the Saints could’ve shown “a bit more dare” late, to which Lyon replied: “We sent a message ‘take it ’. I thought we were daring. I thought with the entries we were playing up-tempo, we were taking it on. That’s just my opinion.“I would’ve thought, as Kenny said, ‘we saw you were in green , we saw you were going and we were really worried’.
“I thought we were challenging and they were under a little bit of pressure. There was a big play on the far side where it looked like we were out and we tapped forward. It was some marginal stuff. “They’ve got a lot of tools and they’ve worked hard and Kenny, who I’ve got a lot of respect for, has built it over time – a lot of finals appearances – and regenerated while he’s copping a lot of pressure … probably from you guys.
Asked about the free kick count, which read 25-10 in favour of Port Adelaide at full-time, Lyon said: “Was it? I don’t really buy into it. Whose way did it go? … Oh did it? Nah, that’s not what cost us the game.
