Kroger got inventive when it wanted to gather a crowd of city and chamber officials in Melissa for the groundbreaking of its 123,000-square-foot store.

Some people wandered into an air-conditioned tent set up for a groundbreaking in Melissa thinking Kroger had set up a popup store.

Kroger is doing it again in two weeks in Plano, but this time hiring a different generator company, said John Votava, Kroger spokesman.The air-conditioned tent on Sept. 20 will be across Coit Road from the existing Kroger at 9700 Coit Road in Plano that’s being replaced.The retailer has three new Kroger Marketplace stores in the works, the first stores it’s built locally since 2019. The third is in Fort Worth on the northeast corner of Highway 287 and East Bonds Ranch Road.
