Arizona State’s problems began and ended with its defense against Eastern Michigan. In Saturday’s loss, ASU couldn’t stop the momentum.

ASU is only one year removed from being the stingiest defense in the Pac-12 after opponents averaged 20.8 points and 326.3 yards through 13 games. The Sun Devils were opportunistic, leading in interceptions and touchdowns . Confidence never wavered for EMU from the first snap and as a result, EMU scored points on five of their first six possessions to claim victory.

The Eagles even took advantage of its offensive success even after starting quarterback Taylor Powell exited after the first quarter with an injury. Austin Smith created yet another rushing threat, while combining with Powell for 154 passing yards.
