Why Quantum Leap's Waiting Room isn't in the reboot gets explained. 'I think the waiting room is dead. I think the waiting room is Quantum Leap of the 1980s and 1990s, and we have a different way of expressing where the Leap Host goes during the leap.'

Quantum Leap director Shakina Nayfack explains what happened to the waiting room for NBC's reboot series. In the original 1989 television series, characters who "leaped" were transported to a waiting room where they were asked questions before they lept into a specific time period. However, in the reboot series, Ben Song does not transport to a waiting room when he leaps. Instead, an algorithm feeds critical information to Ben as he transports himself to another time period.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Now, speaking to TVLine, Nayfack finally explains what happened to the waiting room in the show. She believes that the waiting room no longer exists and that there are different ways to convey how a character leaps as the universe of the show evolved from the last time Quantum Leap aired to now. Check out her full comments on the matter below:

"I think the waiting room is dead. I think the waiting room is Quantum Leap of the 1980s and 1990s, and we have a different way of expressing where the Leap Host goes during the leap."Will Audiences See A Waiting Room In Future Episodes of Quantum Leap? As mentioned above, the ways the characters use an updated Quantum Leap accelerator have changed. In the original series, Dr. Sam Beckett was transported in a waiting room, whilst Ben Song's new accelerator does not contain one.

While he does not exactly remember what happened, Magic explained that he thought someone on the other side of a door nudged him. However, it doesn't look like audiences will see a waiting room in this season, or in upcoming seasons of Quantum Leap. As explained by Nayfack, the waiting room was something that a leap host would go to during the 1980s and in the 1990s era of Quantum Leap.

Now, there are different ways of conveying how Leap Hosts transport themselves through time. Because of changes in the Quantum Leap accelerator, Leap Hosts no longer need to land in a waiting room. They're instead immediately transported in the time period they chose to leap in, and they can also leap into other characters which completely changes the dynamic of what constitutes a Quantum Leap.
