There are many iconic food and beverage items in Star Wars that fans have been curious about for decades, including Jawa Juice, but what is it?
The so-called "Jawa juice" is one of the most famous beverages in Star Wars, and its true nature will come as something of a surprise to viewers. When George Lucas created the Star Wars galaxy, he intended it to be one in which viewers could immerse themselves. He didn't just create characters; he created worlds, civilizations, music, and even food and drink. Some of these are even now available at the Galaxy's Edge theme park, although that's not always the case.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Jawa juice is one exception. Introduced in the Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, its most famous appearance comes in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones. When Obi-Wan visits his informant Dexter Jettster, he is offered a cup of Jawa juice. That's actually a slang term, because Ardees - created by the Ardees Beverage Company - was named after Ardees Rabang Jundis, a member of the production team on the prequels.
RELATED: Star Wars Theory Explains The Sith's Worst Superweapon Is Jawa Juice Like Coffee In Star Wars? Some viewers assumed Jawa juice is a coffee-like drink - based on the setting in which Obi-Wan is offered it. There is indeed a Star Wars version of coffee, simply called caf.Jawa juice is in fact alcoholic, and according to the reference book Star Wars: Absolutely Everything You Need To Know , the drink is made up of bantha hides mashed with fermented grains, not the furry Jawas.
Why Is It Called "Jawa Juice" Star Wars has never officially confirmed why Ardees is usually called Jawa juice. Given Jawa typically use banthas on planets like Tatooine, it's reasonable to assume they created the drink, and perhaps originally sold it. Jawas are scavengers, and they don't believe in waste, so it's likely they find uses for bantha corpses. There are Jawas scattered all over the Outer Rim, which would explain why the drink became known across the galaxy.
