The Anzac Day dilemma is a miniature version of the broader difficulty the West has with Turkey.
Islamic State fighters have reportedly fled across the Syria-Turkey border and established themselves in Turkey. Erdogan might not exactly want them there, but he’s certainly turned a blind eye to Sunni jihadists when it’s suited his strategic interests, notably when they were fighting his arch-adversary, Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad.
