Our weekly Liverpool jury columnists look ahead to Saturday's Merseyside derby at Anfield

The Reds host Everton in the latest Merseyside derby this Saturday afternoon, searching for three points on home soil against their local rivals.

Based on performances so far this season, I’d definitely lean towards the latter option. Gomez has shone brightly when called upon for big games and been the more consistent option for the Reds. Obviously, we’ll be lacking some of the creativity from the defence without Robertson but I’m hoping we’ll have that in abundance with the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, who both put in solid performances for their respective countries during the break.

This question would perhaps be more pertinent if other clubs faced a similar predicament, let’s say Manchester City , because a reduced crowd may reduce output on the pitch. Given how passionate Liverpool fans are, the capacity decrease should not present any problems. Before the last break, we walked away with five wins, a draw and a loss*. And that loss was controversial at best. This time, we’re facing sides from the bottom half of the table, clubs we should beat but could easily trip up against.

Premier League football returning with Saturday lunchtime’s Merseyside derby certainly offers Liverpool plenty of motivation to spring out of the latest international break and hit the ground running.
