Bob Iger has already ousted one of Bob Chapek's top lieutenants, but his to-do list at Disney remains daunting.
, who succeeded him and whoOn Monday afternoon, Iger sent a memo to staff revealing that one of Chapek’s top lieutenants, 15-year Disney veteran, would be leaving the company as the once and future CEO promised to put decision making back in the hands of creative executives. The reorganization that is expected in the coming months will essentially unwind one of Chapek’s biggest strategic initiatives, which gave Daniel the power to control where Disney films and TV shows were distributed.
Corporate restructurings are sometimes just new coats of paint, but they can also have real ramifications on how a company operates. As Iger said in his memo, he wants to “focus on creating a more efficient and cost-effective structure,” so it makes sense that he would focus on this first before dealing with other pressing matters. But there will be other problems for Iger to solve as he leads Disney through what will likely be a challenging couple of years.
