It’s hard to imagine most members of Congress at Coachella. But for Rep. Maxwell Frost, swinging by the festival was just part of his journey to Capitol Hill.
The 25-year-old jazz drummer integrated music into every part of his campaign to represent Florida’s 10th Congressional District, playing drums at the Orlando Pride parade, inviting local musicians to join him at campaign events, and unwinding at the end of long workdays by going home and jamming. The point, Frost says, is creating a “culture of joy.”
“A lot of people think about self care as doing something outside of your work, which is incredibly important, but I think it’s important you can find ways to put it in your work,” Frost says.spent the month before Election Day in Orlando, following along as Frost met with gun violence survivors and marched for abortion rights.as Frost addresses supporters on election night and checks out his new office on Capitol Hill.
