A heatwave is hitting the UK. So, how hot is it expected to get and how does it compare to an Australian summer?

According to the agency, there were nearly 1,000 excess deaths across the UK during an eight-day level 3 heat alert last summer. Rail tracks are being regularly checked to make sure they are not at risk of bending or buckling, and trains will be put under temporary speed restrictions if needed for safety.Temperatures of 40C could be as much as 10 times more likely in the current climate than under a natural climate that is not affected by humans, according to the Met Office.
"We hoped we wouldn't get to this situation, but for the first time ever we are forecasting greater than 40C in the UK," he said.
