From faster internet to petrol price relief, the government has already hinted at several sweeteners ahead of this year’s budget. Here's what we know about the budget so far.
The government is spending $480 million on the National Broadband Network.
The upgraded fixed wireless network will be able to facilitate 100 megabit-per-second download speeds at a maximum, but speeds closer to 50Mbps are expected during busy periods. To avoid shortages in Australia, the Coalition will ramp up support for local gas projects, with $50.3 million put aside to support seven priority infrastructure projects along the east coast, Northern Territory and South Australia. The government will provide support through a new program to help disadvantaged and disengaged young people overcome obstacles to find work.
These are: cheap, reliable and clean energy; skills and training; affordable childcare; productivity-enhancing infrastructure; and a greater sovereign manufacturing capacity fuelled by an off-budget $15 billion investment fund.and free TAFE places, and there will be more promises to come.
