Why is Cambridge Analytica in the news, and what does it have to do with Facebook?
Cambridge Analytica entered the media spotlight on Friday, March 16, when Facebook vice president and deputy general counsel Paul Grewal published astating that SCL, along with Cambridge Analytica, had been suspended from Facebook for not deleting the data it had received in 2015 from a developer who "violated" its platform policies. Grewal wrote, "Several days ago, we received reports that, contrary to the certifications we were given, not all data was deleted.
Grewal's statement specified that the decision to suspend the account was made due to SCL’s improper access of user data through a Facebook app called “thisisyourdigitallife" that was downloaded by 270,000 people. quickly pointed out the Cambridge Analytica story could have larger ramifications, as Cambridge Analytica is the firm “widely credited” with helping Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign “more effectively target” voters using Facebook than Hillary Clinton’s campaign.that, per its reporting, some data had not been fully deleted despite Facebook's claims that the social network had ensured the data was "destroyed.
