From Monday, a large stretch of the popular T3 train line will be closed for 12 months to make way for the Sydney Metro. Here's what is changing, and how you will be impacted.

With the completion of the City and Southwest Metro in sight, a number of train stations on the T3 Bankstown line are about to close for at least 12 months.

From Monday, September 30, a large part of the T3 line – the nine stations between Sydenham and Bankstown – will be closed for 12 months to allow for the completion of the City and Southwest Metro. Unlike previously, a train service will also be introduced between Lidcombe and Liverpool, saving commuters who take this route from travelling to Birrong to change trains. The government has admitted that replacing trains with buses for at least 12 months will impact travel times and inevitably result in delays, however, the impact of the conversion varies greatly depending on where commuters are travelling to and from on the T3 line.

The most direct way of getting to the CBD , eastern suburbs or north Sydney is by catching the Southwest Link to Sydenham station and changing train. Commuters travelling into the CBD, eastern suburbs and north Sydney from these stops can catch the train via Lidcombe rather than Bankstown, with little change to travel times.Access to the Bayside region and Sutherland Shire on the T4 line will be impacted, with commuters needing to catch a Southwest Link bus service to the nearest interchange.

Commuters heading south-west, however, will need a Southwest Link bus service to access any of the locations between Sydenham and Bankstown.
