An annual spring meteor shower known as the Eta Aquarids will be reaching its peak of activity this week, followed by the first of two lunar eclipses in 2022.
The upcoming lunar eclipse will be followed by two consecutive “” — one on June 14 and another on July 13. Those are full moons that look slightly bigger and brighter than an average full moon because their orbit is closer to the Earth.
A lunar eclipse occurs when the moon drifts across the Earth's dark shadow during a period when the sun, the earth and the moon are closely aligned. Because of that alignment, our planet's shadow will temporarily block the light that the sun reflects off the moon's surface, so the moon's brightness will fade.
