Saturday, May 11, is firming as the most likely date for the 2019 federal election.

Deciding the timing of the federal election is fraught with complications. Three important factors come into play when discerning when the 2019 election will be held: guidelines in the constitution, timing of the 2019 Budget and the prevalence of holidays during the eligible period. Although the House of Representatives election can occur up until November 2, the next half-senate election needs to take place before senators’ terms expire on June 30.
The Budget also allows the Morrison Government, as well as the Opposition, the opportunity to pitch new policies.
