After Alabama’s 2022 draft class was its smallest in six years, its 2023 class has a chance to be the school’s largest ever. 🏈

That includes each of Alabama’s five incoming transfers, all of which have the potential with a standout season to follow Jameson Williams in being one-and-done in Tuscaloosa. The performance this fall of running back Jahmyr Gibbs, wide receivers Jermaine Burton and Tyler Harrell, offensive tackle Tyler Steen and cornerback Eli Ricks will shape the size of Alabama’s next draft class.

The first two names on both lists, Young and Anderson, are only juniors but both were Heisman finalists last year and widely expected to leave for the draft after this season. Barring something unexpected, all that is left to determine is exactly where they will be picked. McShay noted in his projection that Anderson is viewed as the best player in the 2023 draft but teams picking at the top might choose a quarterback instead, with Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud and Young seen as the top candidates.

Ricks will be a popular top-15 pick because of his 6-foot-2 length, status as a five-star recruit and his third-team All-America freshman season with LSU in 2020. But he played Alabama’s spring game with the second-team defense and still needs to beat one of two incumbent starters in Kool-Aid McKinstry or Khyree Jackson for a job.

To’o To’o and Ekiyor are among a large group of seniors for Alabama that could forgo any remaining eligibility and enter the NFL draft. But despite McShay’s projection, the player with the highest draft potential of those seniors could be safety Jordan Battle, who had some early-second round predictions before he decided to return to school.

McKinstry is the only experienced starter in Alabama’s secondary that is not eligible for the 2023 draft. Two other corners in Ricks, a junior, and Khyree Jackson, a senior, are eligible with Jackson having a chance to solidify his starting job this fall and move himself onto the NFL radar. A pair of juniors in Brian Branch, the current projected “Star” and Malachi Moore, who formerly held that role, are also eligible for the draft, as are both starting safeties in Battle and DeMarcco Hellams.
