He then started Bo Bichette with a curve ball but winced at the end of his follow through. It was enough to catch the attention of catcher Jonah Heim. Replays also seemed to indicate Scherzer jerked his right arm inward toward his ribcage.
Said Scherzer: “It didn’t release. And my head just said don’t throw the ball. I was like, ‘All right, let’s try it again and see if I could get things engaged and going.’ And I could just feel I wasn’t going to throw the baseball.”What the Rangers would do without Scherzer is still to be determined. They moved Andrew Heaney to the bullpen last week when Nathan Eovaldi returned from the IL. It’s possible Heaney could be moved back to the rotation without any issue.
