A security guard has blown the whistle on a serious lack of training at Melbourne’s quarantine hotels which were identified as the source of the city’s second outbreak of coronavirus.

The guard, identified only as George, broke a gag order to appear on the Today show where he revealed he received only five minutes of training before being tasked to one of Melbourne’s quarantine hotels. Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese told Sky News "it shouldn't be beyond the capacity" of security firms to strictly adhere to COVID-safe practices arguing it was "effectively a breach of their contract".

Health Minister Greg Hunt instructed authorities to "throw the book" at anyone found to be in breach of quarantine protocols. Meanwhile, police have begun patrolling declared hot-spots across Melbourne. Under restrictions, which came into effect today, residents of 36 suburbs across the city were only permitted to leave home for four reasons including essential shopping and exercise.

A Marxist agenda underpins the Black Lives Matter Movement | Sky News AustraliaA Marxist agenda underpins the Black Lives Matter Movement | Sky News AustraliaSky News host Rita Panahi says if the Black Lives Matter movement was “organic, natural and based on reality and substance” then supporters would be able to quote statistics to back up their arguments.\n\nShe told Sky News host Paul Murray, Black Lives Matter was an organised movement led by people who identified as trained Marxists.\n\nShe cited the movement's official website which states “we disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and 'villages' that collectively care for one another'.\n\nSpeaking of football teams which have knelt to show their support for the movement, Sky News contributor Nicholas Reece said the players were kneeling because “they want fairness, they want justice, they want equality … not because they subscribe to some kooky website”.\n\nHowever, Rita Panahi pointed out the fundamental problem was the footballers who knelt for Black Lives Matter, may not have known what they were kneeling about, a problem reflected in the broader population of supporters at large. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia

Prime Minister's Snowy Hydro 2.0 project an 'energy destroyer': Craig kelly | Sky News AustraliaPrime Minister's Snowy Hydro 2.0 project an 'energy destroyer': Craig kelly | Sky News AustraliaLiberal MP Craig Kelly says the Snowy Hydro 2.0 project, spruiked by the prime minister as a low-carbon emissions job creating initiative, is “a destroyer of energy not a creator of energy”. \n\nSnowy 2.0 is a nation-building renewable energy project which will aim to provide on-demand, cost effective energy, and large-scale storage.\n\nThe project involves plans to link two existing dams and pump water to the upper dam when there is surplus energy production and release the water back to the lower dam to generate energy when electricity demand is high. \n\nMr Kelly said a potential problem with the project was “you lose up to 50 per cent of the energy that you actually use in the system”. \n\nMr Kelly said he was yet to be convinced of the economic case for Snow 2.0. \n\n“The only way it makes economic sense is if you can buy the electricity for virtually nothing in the middle of the night,” he told Sky News host Chris Kenny. \n\nMr Kenny said this was “not the ringing political endorsement” which would be expected of Coalition MP’s in the lead-up to the Eden Monaro by-election, but Mr Kelly insisted he was committed to calling it as he sees it. \n\nImage: News Corp Australia
