White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre suggested on Monday a threat by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to impeach Attorney General Merrick Garland would be viewed as a distraction by voters.

McCarthy said on Sunday that House Republicans could proceed with a motion to impeach the Justice Department chief over allegations made by a whistleblower that the Biden administration interfered with the investigation into Hunter Biden, who was charged with misdemeanor tax evasion charges.House Republicans released a transcript last week from a whistleblower who claims that the attorney general had denied a request to appoint the U.S.

"If it comes true what the IRS whistleblower is saying, we’re going to start impeachment inquiries on the attorney general," the House speaker said. Jean-Pierre responded to a question during Monday's press briefing about McCarthy's comments by claiming that President Joe Biden is focused on improving the economy, which she called the core"priority" of the public.

"This is not the main priority of American families. They want us to come together in a bipartisan way to work on the things that they truly care about," she said of a potential impeachment."They want us to come together in a bipartisan way to deliver, to build on the successes that this president has done the last two years."
