White House says Russia could invade Ukraine within the week
The White House says Russia could invade Ukraine next week, possibly within the next two days, as both the United States, Britain and Australia have told their citizens to leave the country as soon as possible.
“We continue to urge Russia to remain engaged in reciprocal diplomatic dialogue on what would be a extraordinary unilateral action,” she said. “We support Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. We support a unified European and NATO response, and we are standing together with Ukraine at this very difficult time.”
Vladyslav Heraskevych, of Ukraine, holds his “No War in Ukraine” sign after finishing a run at the men’s skeleton competition at the 2022 Winter Olympics.“It’s my position. Like any normal people, I don’t want war,” Heraskevych said after he finished competing. “I want peace in my country, and I want peace in the world. It’s my position, so I fight for that. I fight for peace.”
Sullivan said the United States was ready and would respond with a package of economic sanctions on Russia and military support for Ukraine, as well as boosting NATO’s military presence on the border in Poland, which is a member of NATO while Ukraine is not.
