"Stopping transmission will require a comprehensive response, with communities at the centre," Mr Ghebreyesus said in a statement on X. A total of 16 African countries have reported cases of mpox, while another 18 are at high risk of being infected, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention .
