Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has warned of a 'tsunami' of COVID-19 cases as the highly contagious Omicron variant takes hold of the world, alongside the Delta strain.
The Director-General of the World Health Organisation is"highly concerned" the circulation of the Omicron variant, alongside the Delta strain,"is leading to a tsunami of cases".
"Right now, Delta and Omicron are twin threats that are driving up cases to record numbers, which again is leading to spikes in hospitalisations and deaths," he said. Dr Tedros said a large number of health workers are getting sick themselves which adds to the strain on health systems.
