It has long been known that Charles wanted to head up a “slimmed down” monarchy during his reign as King, andThe King and Queen were flanked by 15 members of theBut a few notable people were missing:As expected, King Charles’s youngest son skipped the balcony appearance and opted instead to fly home to California to see his son, Archie, on his birthday.
Prince Andrew’s two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, were also absent. Neither are working royals, but they have previously appeared on the balcony next to Queen Elizabeth II on several occasions.At 74, Charles is the oldest monarch to be crowned in British history. He is the longest-serving British monarch-in-waiting, having been first in line to the throne since the age of three.
