After Trump won in 2016, Masters was on his transition team. That work put him in direct contact with prominent Trump allies such as his son-in-law Jared Kushner and ex-Trump aide Steve Bannon, also a prominent far-right media personality. If elected, Masters said he would press for an investigative unit of software engineers that he would personally oversee. The team, he said, would be embedded in companies like Google weeks before elections to prevent changes to core search-engine algorithms unless the company could prove changes aren’t being done “for the purpose of rigging an election.”
