Transport Minister Catherine King is a longstanding Labor MP, a former social worker, known to be a stickler for the rules. But one decision is now firmly in the spotlight.

Labor MP Julian Hill, who along with King is a member of the party’s Victorian Left faction, says she is a “wonderful person”. While the opposition has accused the government of a “sweetheart deal” with Qantas, King has justified her decision as being in the national interest, and not in the commercial interests of any one airline.
