The Arizona House of Representatives voted to remove Rep. Liz Harris after she invited a guest to a hearing who made false allegations.Arizonans will find out Friday who will take the seat in the Legislature vacated by Liz Harris, the Chandler Republican whose fellow lawmakers voted to expel from office after she lied to the House Ethics Committee.
The other candidates are Julie Willoughby, a nurse who ran as a team with Harris and narrowly lost the district's second House seat to her last year, and Steven Steele, a retired natural-gas worker, motorcycle-operator trainer and election-conspiracy promoter.after an investigation revealed that she'd lied to the state House Ethics Committee and brought disrepute to the House by inviting a witness to give false testimony in a public hearing.
But the lack of an appointment over nearly three weeks did stymie Republicans in the Legislature from passing party-line bills, because 31 votes are needed to pass legislation and Harris' exit meant they had only 30.
