China may be struggling to keep a tally of COVID-19 infections as the country experiences a big spike in cases, World Health Organization official says.
The WHO said it was ready to work with China to improve the way the country collected data around critical factors such as hospitalisation and death.
In May, The WHO estimated there were nearly 15 million coronavirus deaths worldwide — more than double the official toll of 6 million.Some scientists have warned that the unchecked spread of COVID-19 in China may spur the emergence of new variants, which might unravel progress made globally to contain the pandemic.
He said it was impossible to stop transmission of Omicron, the most highly infectious variant of COVID-19 seen yet.
