The boy band featured in Turning Red is a fictional creation of the Pixar universe, but the musical talent behind 4*Town's oldest member Jesse is well-known in the real world. Released on Disney+ in 2022, Turning Red revolves around 13-year-old Torontonian Mei Lee, a superfan of the boy band 4*Town. Due to a hereditary curse, Mei transforms into a giant red panda every time she feels an especially strong emotion.

At the 95th Academy Awards, it was nominated for Best Animated Feature, but lost to Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio. It also struck a chord with audiences and became the second most-streamed movie of the year .
O’Connell & Billie Eilish Contributed Original Songs To The Turning Red Soundtrack While the original score for Turning Red was provided by Ludwig Göransson, the Oscar-winning composer behind Black Panther and The Mandalorian, O’Connell and his sister and collaborator Billie Eilish created three original songs for the soundtrack. O’Connell and Eilish had previously won the Oscar for Best Original Song for their theme for the Bond movie No Time to Die.
“Nobody Like U” is the hugely popular 4*Town song that everyone in the world knows, even if they’re not fans; “1 True Love” is the band’s romantic ballad; and “U Know What’s Up” is an inspirational, confidence-building piece. O’Connell and Eilish are famous for their unique electropop sound, but they proved to be just as adept at different musical styles when they stepped outside their wheelhouse for Turning Red’s 4*Town songs.
