The WA Liberals' endorsement of an Albany doctor who made false claims about the LGBTQIA+ community is attracting the kind of attention the party doesn't need.
In the three years since the WA Liberals were relegated to the near-political wilderness, a lot of reasons have been identified for their poor election performance.
"That includes a group of people who identify as minor-attracted persons," a transcript of the meeting provided to the ABC reads. He was backed up by fellow Liberal, Senator Matt O'Sullivan, who said Dr Brough had been subjected to "vilification" by "misleading" reporting by the ABC and local newspaper The Albany Advertiser.
"He was selected by local pre-selectors as the best candidate to represent his local area. That means somebody who is in touch with the issues of that community," he told reporters."Those comments have not been condoned by the broader Liberal Party. They don't reflect the values of the Liberal Party."
"It's saying to people who are interested in the party that there are very conservative views that are prevailing at the moment."The disastrous result of the campaign, which wasn't helped by those scandals, resulted in the party's Road to Reform report, which was meant to chart a course from its lowest point to a brighter electoral future.
