ANALYSIS: Republican candidate Dave Galluch, a former navy officer, could be about to claim one of the biggest upsets in next week’s US midterm elections.
next Tuesday , it will be one of the most spectacular underdog victories of the midterm elections and one that Australians should take notice of.
“China now has the biggest navy in the world. I think there’s a lot we need to do, from a US perspective, to strengthen and expand our navy, but certainly, I would like to see a similar strengthening and expansion in the navies of some of our key allies to include Australia,” says Galluch, who was twice deployed in the elite Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit.
On dry land in suburban Pennysylvania, Galluch always knew his fight to beat the Democrat Scanlon was going to be tough. His rival has raised $US1.6 million , twice as much money as his campaign, but he is confident he can still win the race based on his message. One of the entities supporting Galluch’s run at Congress is a political action committee known as True Americans started by the owners of a local mechanical construction business. Father and son David and Trey Devine say they had trucks stolen from their yard and also noted a rise in violent crime.“My father was so impressed after meeting Dave Galluch that he knew he had to do something to help. Dave is a no-nonsense guy who is running on common sense,” Trey Devine says.
