Coppell's Morgan Price signed with Fisk University — the nation's first HBCU gymnastics program — over Arkansas on Thursday. What led her to turn down a full SEC ride?
“How many of you guys in here have been inspired by Morgan?” she asked.
She’s part of a growing trend in recent years that has seen premier athletes blaze new trails in choosing HBCU programs over those at the Power Five level. And as college athletes can now profit off of NIL and as“I just want other Black gymnasts to not be afraid to take risks,” Price said. “And to do what they love.”
The second was to compete in college gymnastics. That was never in doubt for Price, a star recruit who placed second in the uneven bars and third all around at the 2022 Women’s Development Program National Championships in Mesa, Ariz. last month. That picture includes trailblazing.
