The Evil Dead was almost part of a massive crossover movie with some horror icons, but Ash Campbell's ability caused the film to get scrapped.
The Evil Dead almost had a big crossover movie with Freddy Kruger and Jason Vorhees, but Ash Williams prevented it from happening. The Evil Dead, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Friday the 13th are three of the most popular horror franchises of all time, which horror fans have dreamed about seeing crossover on the big screen. This was actually surprisingly close to happening, but it was shelved due to The Evil Dead.
Starting in 2007, a DC comic books series titled Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash ran for six issues. The series saw the three horror icons come together for an epic battle, with the famous Deadite hunter taking on the Springwood Slasher and the killer of Crystal Lake. The comic series was hugely popular, building off of the success of the movie Freddy vs. Jason. The comic was so popular that New Line Cinema entered discussions to adapt it into a feature film.
On top of that, there was also an economic reason behind their decision not to move forward with the project. Since the crossover involved three franchises, the box office revenue would have had to be split three ways, which didn't interest any party. So, as it turns out, there just wasn't enough of a creative or financial incentive to make Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash.
Why It's Too Late For Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash Now Despite some viewers clamoring for the movie, it's too late for Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash. While Jason is typically under a hockey mask, robbing him of some personality, Freddy and Ash's entire appeal comes from their actors. Robert Englund and Bruce Campbell's most iconic performances are Freddy Krueger and Ash Williams, respectively, but they've both retired from playing the characters.
Another reason Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash can't happen now is the state that each franchise is in. A Nightmare on Elm Street isn't doing anything right now, and Friday the 13th is departing its typical formula by releasing a Crystal Lake prequel series. Even The Evil Dead has undergone a franchise reboot without Ash, meaning the franchises aren't in a place to pull off the big horror crossover.
