Henry Cavill explains why he decided to return as Sherlock in EnolaHolmes2 alongside Millie Bobby Brown: 'It's important to get things right.'

Henry Cavill explains why he decided to return as Sherlock in Enola Holmes 2. The British actor is best known for his portrayal of Superman in the DC Extended Universe and Geralt of Rivia in Netflix's fantasy series, The Witcher. Released in 2020, the first Enola Holmes movie continued Cavill's collaboration with Netflix and, with about 76 million household views in its first four weeks, was a massive hit for the streaming service and one of their most-watched original films.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Based on Nancy Springer's young adult series, Enola Holmes shifts the focus from the already-famous Sherlock Holmes to his titular teenage sister. While Sherlock was still present in the movie, this naturally meant a reduced role for the master detective played by innumerable actors over the years, including Marvel Cinematic Universe stars Robert Downey Jr. and Benedict Cumberbatch.

It's important to get things right. It's important to make sure the tone of things is not lost in the potential excitement of franchises and universes. It's always so difficult to tell where things are going, and what will happen. I have experience with franchises going places, and going quiet, and other franchises popping up and becoming exciting. It's all about the decision-making up top, and everything else that goes with it. I'm merely the hired work.

Henry Cavill Will Have A Larger Role In Enola Holmes 2 Sherlock's increased role in Enola Holmes 2 also probably factored into Cavill's decision to return. Ever since Sherlock was the focus of the sequel's first-look footage, it was apparent that Enola's famous brother would have an expanded role in the sequel.

While his DCEU return remains up in the air, Cavill fans are surely glad to see him returning as Sherlock. As opposed to his more serious role in The Witcher, the Enola Holmes film series is more of a lighthearted whodunit that allows Cavill to enjoy himself. With Sherlock having an expanded role in the sequel, fans will be able to see even more of Cavill's charismatic side that they don't get to see onscreen as often.
