He opened for Joan Rivers at 23 and is the familiar face of Mardi Gras and Eurovision. So who cares if Neighbours don’t call again?
There he is, co-hosting Nova FM’s national drive-time show with Tim Blackwell and Ricki-Lee, or appearing as a charming regular on TV panel shows and streaming comedy specials, as well as hosting the past five Sydney Mardi Gras broadcasts on SBS. He has also racked up seven years as co-host of the Eurovision Song Contest alongside Myf Warhurst. All that on top of his career as a stand-up comedian.
He’s about to embark on a national tour with best mate and fellow comedian Rhys Nicholson, reprising last year’sshow, a “yuletide gay extravaganza” hosted by “your favourite drunk aunties”.Each show features different comedians and musicians. “Last year was just wild; we had so much fun. Rhys and I are best friends – I was the best man at their wedding to Kyran – and we really just love each other, but we never get to work together.
“I know! It’s the most macho thing ever and he’s given birth to – this. To me! And he loves it,” says Creasey. “When you tell your parents that you want to be a comic, most parents will say, ‘oh please don’t do that’, but my parents were like ‘that’s great!’ and drove me to my first gig.” I was 24 and they offered me an advance, so of course I said yes,” he says. “Reading it back – and I wouldn’t even know where a copy is in my house – I cringe a little bit at the musings I had on the world.”Evidently plenty of fans read it; he still has people approaching him to talk about it. “I’m always like, oh my God … did you laugh? It was pre-pandemic – I was probably a very different person back then. But it’s a light read. A large font.
