Liverpool won't be able to name a full 25-man squad for at least the first half of the Premier League season

Liverpool will be unable to name a full 25-man squad for the Premier League this season despite signing Ryan Gravenberch on transfer deadline day.

Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all left the club at the end of their contracts, while Fabinho and Jordan Henderson completed shock big-money moves to Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, Fabio Carvalho and Nat Phillips were just two of a plethora of loan exits from Anfield, while loanee Arthur Melo returned to Juventus at the end of last season.

Consequently, following Liverpool’s summer transfer business, the maximum size squad they can name features 22 players - though two of those would be academy graduates now over the age of 21 who have never played a professional game for the club. For starters, two of those current vacancies would need to be filled by homegrown players to remain in line with Premier League rules. And while the Reds do have one overseas berth left unfilled, UEFA's differing rules mean it is actually likely to be filled by Gravenberch for Europa League action.
