Marvel's deadliest Spider-Man is not welcome in the Spider-Verse.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The Marvel Comics multiverse has no shortage of Spider-Man-esque heroes scattered across the infinite realities, and each one is welcome within the unified ‘Spider-Verse’, especially in times of interdimensional crisis. Well, all except one. Here’s why Marvel’s ultra deadly ‘Spider Hero’ isn’t welcome in the Spider-Verse.
While most spider-heroes exhibit powers and abilities either akin or fully identical to the original Spider-Man of Earth-616, that’s not an end all be all in terms of getting accepted into the multiversal spider-community. Some alternate spider-heroes were bitten by radioactive spiders just like Peter Parker , while others achieved their spider-hero status through technology or mysticism .
Blade’s “Spider Hero” Is An Honorary Avenger, But NOT An Official ‘Spider-Man’ In Mighty Avengers Vol. 2 #1 by Al Ewing and Greg Land, readers are introduced to the Splendiferous Spider Hero who “Does Whatever A Mysterious Stranger Can”. It’s not as catchy as the original Spider-Man’s classic saying, but this spider-hero certainly looks the part, and is fighting alongside the Avengers to face off against Thanos’ Black Order.
While Blade’s vampiric genes certainly make him superhuman enough to pull off being a ‘spider-hero’, this disguise was just that: a disguise. Blade never became a ‘Spider Totem’ the way other spider-heroes across the Spider-Verse have, and he even quickly changes his disguise to the Ronin persona to stay fighting alongside the Avengers while continuing to hide his true identity, further confirming his lack of commitment.
Not only did Blade become Spider Hero purely out of necessity, and relinquished the title almost as quickly as he created it, but he didn’t act like a ‘Spider-Man’ would have at all while fighting as Spider Hero. Blade was still the weapons-wielding badass fans know and love, with no attempt at trying to be a ‘friendly neighborhood’ hero at all. For that reason, along with the many others previously mentioned, Marvel’s ultra deadly ‘Spider-Man’ hero isn’t welcome in the Spider-Verse.
