Pearland approves $89K contract with national firm to develop arts and cultural master plan

The goal of the plan"is to create a common vision for the role that arts and culture should play in Pearland," according to a city summary of the project. In 2021, Mayor Kevin Cole joined representatives from the company and the Pearland Chamber of Commerce on a listening tour that included 28 meetings with local visual and performing arts and community groups.

"I started this for a couple of reasons," said Cole."One, I just think the size of city we are, it's time for us to do the very best we can even in the arts community so we can have that part of our community being addressed, cultivated and growing." Cole said another reason he supports the master plan is to help complete former Mayor Tom Reid's legacy. Reid, he said,"poured his heart into the arts and culture community."

The project, which has as timeline of 10 months, will include an economic analysis, market-demand studies and research into the pandemic's impacts on the arts community. Other work will include community surveys and a draft of a final plan.
