Joe Garcia and the number 22 have appeared on T-shirts and posters. Often times, when slain teacher Irma Garcia is mentioned, so is her husband. The couple had a joint funeral and are buried next to each other.

Irma, a, fourth grade teacher at Robb Elementary, was killed in her classroom during the May 24 mass shooting. Her husband of 24 years died a couple days later of a heart attack. The couple is survived by four children Cristian, Jose, Lyliana and Alysandra Garcia., the number 21 became a way to memorialize the lives lost.
The 22nd number honors Joe Garcia, the husband of slain teacher Irma Garcia. He died two days after the May 24 shooting from a heart attack, according to the family. His death left their four children parentless.
