Next year’s draft in Detroit, in fact, came up a lot during my reporting of how ESPN/ABC and the NFL Network produced this year’s NFL Draft in Kansas City. The most-watched opening round came in 2020 when sports shut down due to the onset of COVID-19 pandemic. That draft — a QB-loaded opening round with Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert and Jordan Love — drew a whopping 15.26 million viewers. The 2021 NFL Draft averaged 12.52 million viewers, the second most-watched opening round. was the 2014 opening round, which saw Johnny Manziel fall to theat No. 22.
North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye, along with USC’s Caleb Williams, is expected to be atop the 2024 NFL Draft board.
