Why the top-earning Australian at Norman’s first event says LIV golf is here to stay | app85

One of the first Australians to play in Greg Norman’s breakaway golf league said the concept is here to stay and he’s desperate to test himself against the likes of Bryson DeChambeau and Patrick Reed in coming events.

But he was also part of a team which finished second in the alternate format, his group including Peter Uihlien, Richard Bland and Phachara Khongwatmai sharing a $2.15 million pot. “It’s a huge opportunity to compete against these guys and if I can have a good week alongside the likes of Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau and beat them, what do you think it does for an Asian Tour player’s confidence? I’m looking at it for that.“I don’t know if LIV Golf is going to be around in the really long term, and I know the PGA Tour is going to be around for as long as I’m living.

Norman declared it is just the start of his new venture, despite PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan imposing indefinite bans on members such as Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson and two-time Australian Open champion Matt Jones who have all joined the new league.“It’s my job to protect, defend and celebrate our loyal PGA Tour members, our partners and our fans, and that’s exactly what I did,” Monahan said.
