The rabidness with which people in California talk about In-N-Out has always mystified me. It all started when I moved to Berkeley from Washington state for college at Cal. Students would drive 20 minutes to the nearest In-N-Out and then sell room-temperature burgers on campus for a markup. I am coming to this with a good degree of bias: I’m pescatarian. I don’t eat burgers . So I’ve always had a chip on my shoulder about In-N-Out because it offers zero legitimate veggie options, despite the fact that many of its competitors do. No, I don’t think simply removing the burger patty and calling it a “grilled cheese” counts.
