When you see the new stickers on avocados at Woolworths, don't think of it as the supermarket making a hard sell.Signage will also be posted reading "EAT LATER" for avocados that aren't quite ripe yet. Those avocados should be eaten two to four days after being sold.
"We understand the disappointment of cutting into an unripe avocado, a tale known too well with avocado lovers," a Woolworths spokesperson said. "Customers will now be able to buy their avos with confidence with the introduction of Eat Now stickers." The stickers will be rolled out in selected stores in Queensland, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania. The new program is part of Woolworths' efforts to tackle food waste.
The avocado stickers follow the success of the bananas program, where signage would indicate which bananas were ripe and which ones needed a little more time before being eaten.
