Aaron Judge isn't the first person in the Yankees clubhouse to hit three home runs in a game.
Higashioka wasn’t the only Yankee with a three-homer game on his resume in the first-base dugout either. Anthony Rizzo had the franchise’s most recent hat trick, drilling three big flies against the Orioles on April 26 of last year. Higashioka’s unlikely homer barrage came against the Blue Jays in a blowout win over the Blue Jays on Sept. 16, 2020.
Yankees manager Aaron Boone is also a member of that club from his playing days. He went yard three times in a career night for the Reds on Aug. 9, 2002 and then did it again the next year, clearing the left-field wall three times at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati on May 8, 2003. He also egged Judge on Wednesday night.
Judge stayed humble on Wednesday nignt, calling it just another night. It was much more than that, though. In addition to powering a lifeless offense to their first win in almost two weeks — snapping a nine-game losing streak — Judge swung his way into the history books.
