Eva, 65, has been reassessing her finances to try and weather the cost of living storm.
A widow says she's been forced to downsize her property and will need to work well into her retirement just to make ends meet because of the rising cost of living.Eva told the Express: “I'm 65 and will be 66 in February 2024. I will be taking my state pension as I can't afford not to. I intend to keep my job and am looking for more hours but not having much luck. “I'm in the process of selling my house and downsizing into a small shared-ownership property.
Lots of homeowners who save into a pension don't believe they'll ever be able to retire, new Living Wage Foundation research reveals. The research found that 54% of pension savers who own their home don't feel they'll ever be able to retire. These people are being forced to cut their contributions as the cost of living crisis continues to rise.
If those approaching retirement chose to pot for smaller properties, they require less maintenance and cleaning which in turn can put less stress on the body. Eva’s partner died almost three years ago, and they had been together for over 43 years, but never married so she wasn’t entitled to any widows’ benefit. She said: “We had savings but I've used almost half in the last three years and that's been purely paying bills, buying food and the normal things that everyone does.
