Wife killer and former Sydney teacher Chris Dawson has launched an appeal to overturn a conviction relating to an unlawful sexual relationship with one of his teenage students.
Dawson had another three years added onto his prison time for grooming and engaging in sexual acts with a then-16-year-old student he met at a Sydney high school. However, his lawyer Stephen Eccleshall confirmed on Thursday morning the former Newtown Jets rugby league player was appealing the conviction, but not the sentence.Dawson did not appear virtually.His earliest chance of possible released will be in 2041 when he is aged 93.In September last year, Dawson, a former school teacher, was sentenced to three years in jail after a judge found he had pursued an unlawful sexual relationship with a 16-year-old he met at the high school he taught in Sydney.
Judge Sarah Huggett said Dawson had told the girl she was beautiful and encouraged her to open up to him, treating her like his property."One of his favourite stories was that he'd seen me in the playground and he thought to himself, 'I'd really like to get to know her, she's beautiful," the now woman said.A photo tendered to court of Chris Dawson and Lynette Dawson.
