JUST IN: California Gov. Newsom declares 'statewide emergency,' saying the state is 'deploying every resource available' as wildfires have caused almost 200,000 evacuations and destroyed dozens of homes.
Extremely low humidity is helping the fire spread, an official from the National Weather Service said in a Sunday morning press conference, but said the winds seem to be at their peak, and should hopefully go down soon.
The Kincade Fire, which began Wednesday, has prompted the largest evacuation in the history of Sonoma County, California’s wine country, NBC Bay Area reports. Nearly 90,000 people were evacuated Saturday, as the fire jumps over highways and roads jam up with people trying to flee. As of Sunday, approximately 180,000 people were under evacuation warnings from the Kincade Fire, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff.
