Karl Atkinson was the manager of a Wilko shop in Merseyside
Karl Atkinson, 48, was the store manager of the Wilko in Huyton. Earlier this week, he was tasked to clear the shop of stock as Wilko shops across the country closed for good.
Karl is in a WhatsApp chat for all the Wilko shops in the Liverpool region. In recent weeks, members of the chat began to pass on thanks and tributes to the company and its staff as the shops began to shut. He originally planned to keep the video on his phone and send it to the WhatsApp chat next week, but his daughter convinced him to do something different. He said: “I got home and showed it to my wife and my daughter who is eight, and she said, you have to put it on TikTok.”
Karl dedicated the post to the staff, who were wished well by many shoppers who visited the shop in its last few weeks. He argues that his singing going viral is a fitting ending to Wilko’s time in Huyton.
