Stockbroker Wilsons has set up a new natural resources dealmaking unit targeting IPOs, equity raisings and MWilsons will be targeting miners and explorers, as it seeks to muscle in on activity in small and mid cap resources.as chairman to signal its natural resources ambitions, Wilsons has recruited Petra Capital’s Craig Brown to build and run a sector-specific corporate advisory team.

Brown will report to Wilsons head of corporate finance, Rob Snow, and target deals in the small to mid-cap end of the market. Brown spent the past 4½ years at Petra, and was recently involved in raisings for Sayona Mining and Stanmore Coal .A at oil and gas play AWE Limited, where he helped orchestrate a three-way bidding war between China Energy Reserve and Chemical Group, Chris Ellison’s Mineral Resources and Japanese giant Mitsui.

It’ll be interesting to see whether Wilsons can muscle in on the territory traditionally owned by the Perth-based brokers and the likes of Bell Potter, Petra Capital and, more recently, Canaccord Genuity. co-edits Street Talk, specialising in private equity, investment banking, M&A and equity capital markets.
