With Kerber seemingly on an inevitable path to claiming the set second at 5-3 up, Barty was not the sort of opponent who should be given a small window of opportunity. More than once in the second set, with Barty trying to find a way to seize back the initiative, the world No.1 pounced on her chances. In the ninth and 10th games of the second set, Barty didn’t lose a point, first in breaking back and then a superb service game to consolidate.
