WA authorities say gusty winds have them on high alert as a bushfire burns in steep terrain in the state's south. The arson squad is investigating the cause of the blaze.

The fire remains at emergency level and lives and property are at risk in parts of the Murray and Waroona shires.Department of Fire and Emergency Services incident controller Sven Andersen said easterly winds were forecast to increase this morning before conditions eased later today.Crews are focused on building containment lines and firebreaks before forecast easterly winds pick up later this morning.
Overnight the warning area grew substantially to include an advice level alert for the nearby town of Pinjarra.The area is bound by Pinjarra Williams Road to the north, Scarp Road and Farley Road to the east, Tallathalla Road to the south and South Western Highway to the west, and includes the Meelon townsite and Marrarup Nature Reserve.
